Trooper Charles Hover was appointed to the New York State Police on July 1, 1940 at Troop "G" and was inducted in the United States Army on March 31, 1941. During his military service, Trooper Hover was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and then served in the United States Army Air Corps. Trooper Charles E. Hover died in a plane crash over northern Italy on June 5, 1945 and was buried with full military honors in Mirandola, Italy.
